Nick sat there in the hospital, looking at his wife. Brizee was in a coma after being in a car accident on her way home from a doctor's appointment. She was seven months pregnant with their first child. Dr. Thomas was doing everything she can for Brizee and the baby. Nick sat there holding her hand. Brian and Leighanne came in.
        "Hey Frack," Brian said.
        "Hey Frick," Nick said.
        "Nick, you've been here for two days, we can stay with her so you can go home and rest," Brian said.
        "I can't leave her, Brian," Nick said.
        "Nick, I will call if anything changes, you need to go home and rest in your own bed without any interruptions, lock up the house, turn off the phones, you can rest without any noises, well, leave your cell on vibrate, I'll call if anything happens," Brian said.
        "Brian, if Leighanne was in the hospital, pregnant and fighting for her life, and I told you to go home and rest, would you?" Nick asked.
        "Yes, I would because I know Leighanne would understand," Brian said.
        "Brizee would want you to go home and rest, I know her as well as you do, Nick, she's my best friend," Leighanne said. Nick looked at Brizee.
        "Call me, please, let me know what's going on," Nick said. Brian nodded. Nick got up and kissed her forehead.
        "I'll be back soon, baby," Nick said whispered. He went home and locked up and went upstairs and showered and got dressed and laid on the bed and turned the ringer off on his phone in the bedroom and put his cell phone on vibrate. He reached over and picked up a picture of him and Brizee on their wedding day. He put the picture back and turned over and went to sleep. He woke up sometime later and saw that he had slept for twelve hours. He checked his phone and didn't see any missed calls. He heard the doorbell rang. He got up and went downstairs and opened the door and saw Kevin and Kristin.
    "Hi sweetie," Kristin said hugging him.
    "Hey," Nick said. They came in.
    "Brian said you were here, that he sent you home to rest," Kevin said.
    "Yeah, I should get back," Nick said.
    "Nick, don't worry, she's not alone, AJ and Ally are there with her now, they sent Brian and Leighanne home to Baylee, AJ said he would call if anything happened," Kevin said. Nick sat down on the couch. Kevin and Kristin sat down next to him.
    "All of this is my fault," Nick said.
    "Nick, it's not your fault," Kevin said.
    "Yes it is, I was working on some songs and told her I would meet her at the appointment and I lost track of time and missed it," Nick said.
    "Nick, I talked to her after the appointment when she was walking to her car, she wasn't mad that you missed the appointment, she said it was just a checkup and no ultrasound, you didn't have to be there, she knew you would want to be at the one with the ultrasound so you could see the baby, she loves you, Nick," Kristin said.

        “I can’t lose her, I can’t!” Nick said crying. Kristin hugged him. The phone rang.

        “Hello, hey J, what, be right there,” Kevin said. He hung up. Nick looked at him.

        “What is it,” Nick said.

        “Dr. Thomas wants to talk to you about Brizee’s condition,” Kevin said.  Nick got up and changed and went to the hospital with Kevin. He walked into Brizee’s room and saw Brian and Leighanne with Dr. Thomas.

        “Dr. Thomas, you wanted to speak to me,” Nick said.

        “Yes, nothing has changed in her condition, the baby’s heartbeat is still strong, we are concerned about Brizee, her being in a coma while pregnant, that she hasn’t woken up yet is beyond our expectations, we want to try something,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “What is it,” Nick said.

        “We would like your permission to remove the baby, to see if that is what’s keeping her from waking up,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “If you do that, what is the expectation of my child surviving?” Nick asked.

        “50%,” she said.

        “So you want me to sacrifice my child for the hope of my wife waking up, you are not getting it, I will not give up my baby for my wife, I want them both to be okay, I’m not giving up my child, no chances,” Nick said.

        “Nick,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “No, I will not risk losing my child!” Nick said. Dr. Thomas nodded and left the room. Nick sat down and held Brizee’s hand.

        “Nick, we are behind you all the way,” Kevin said.

        “Thanks, guys,” Nick said. Brian and Leighanne came in and Kevin told them what Dr. Thomas said. Brian hugged Nick.

        “You made the right choice, Frack,” Brian said.

        “They are everything to me, I can’t lose them,” Nick said.

Four weeks later, Brizee still hadn’t woken up and the baby’s heartbeat was still strong. Nick sat there holding Brizee’s hand. Dr. Thomas came in.

        “Nick, she is eight months along and the baby will have an 80% chance of survival if we perform a C-section,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “Do you honestly think my wife will wake up if you remove the baby, is there proof she will,” Nick said.

        “Nick,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “I don’t want any speculations, doc, I want concrete proof,” Nick said.

        “Nick, we should get the baby out now before we lose it,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “The heartbeat is still strong, as it has been since the beginning,” Nick said.

        “Nick, please,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “If you go against my wishes and you take the baby and it dies, I will sue this hospital and have your license revoked, you will never be a doctor again,” Nick said.

        “Nick, she is eight months, the baby will survive if it’s born now,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “How can you be so sure, doc,” Nick said.

        “Because I delivered a baby this morning that was early, the mother was seven months and was in labor and we couldn’t stop the labor and she gave birth and the baby is going to live,” Dr. Thomas said. Nick looked at Brizee and looked at Dr. Thomas.

        “Fine, do it, but if my baby dies or my wife, your career as a doctor is over,” Nick said.  Dr. Thomas nodded. Nick stroked Brizee’s forehead and kissed her softly. Nick went with them and watched them perform the C-section. He heard his baby crying and they closed Brizee up and took care of the baby and Brizee. Dr. Thomas came over with the baby.

        “Nick, your son, he is a healthy baby, we will keep a close eye on him,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “And my wife?” Nick asked.

        “We will see if she wakes up,” Dr. Thomas said. Nick went back to the room as Brizee went to recovery. The guys and girls were there. Brian hugged him.

        “I hope it works, Nick,” Brian said. Nick nodded.

        “If my wife or baby dies, Dr. Thomas will no longer be a doctor, I told her that her career is over if anything happens to them,” Nick said. They went to the nursery and Nick pointed to his son. They watched the baby.

Two weeks later, Nick sat in the room with Brizee and the baby. Brizee still hadn’t woken up yet. His son was released from the hospital and was healthy and lively.  Brian and Leighanne came in and watched Nick rock his son to sleep.

        “Anything?” Brian asked.

        “No, Dr. Thomas was so sure she would wake up if the baby was removed, but no sign of her waking up,” Nick said.

        “Well, how about we take him home with us while you are here,” Brian said. Nick looked at his son and kissed his forehead and nodded. He laid him in Leighanne’s arms and she and Brian left. Nick sat there and held Brizee’s hand. 

        “Hey honey, I wish you would wake up so you can see our son, he needs you, baby, he needs his mom, I need you, baby,” Nick said. He kissed her hand.  Dr. Thomas came in.

        “Nick,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “It didn’t work, my wife still didn’t wake up,” Nick said.

        “We just did some more tests, I’m sorry, Mr. Carter, I’m afraid she’ll never wake up,” Dr. Thomas said. Nick looked at Brizee and looked at Dr. Thomas.

        “Rerun the test, my wife will wake up,” Nick said.

        “Nick,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “Do you hate me or something, are you doing something to my wife to make sure she’ll stay in a coma forever,” Nick said.

        “Nick, I am doing everything possible to get your wife to wake up,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “Well, try harder!” Nick said.

        “I’m sorry, Nick, there is nothing else that can be done,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “I better go home to my son, can you keep me informed on her condition?” Nick asked.

        “We will monitor her and call if there is any change,” Dr. Thomas said. Nick kissed Brizee’s forehead.

        “I love you, baby, so much, please come back for me and our son,” Nick said. He went out the door and went home and saw Brian and Leighanne.

        “Nick,” Brian said.

        “Dr. Thomas said the latest results state that Brizee may never come out of the coma,” Nick said.

        “I know she will, she won’t leave you,” Brian said hugging him. Nick hugged him and went to see his son sleeping.

        “My focus is going to be on my son, he needs me,” Nick said stroking his finger over his son’s cheek.

        “We will stay here and help you, Nick,” Brian said.

        “What about Baylee?” Nick asked.

        “He’s upstairs taking a nap, he wants to be the honorary big brother,” Leighanne said. Nick smiled.

Three months later, there was no change in Brizee’s condition. Nick visited every day and mainly stayed close to his son. He went to the store with the baby. He was picking out some ice cream when someone came over to his cart.

        “Oh my gosh, he’s adorable!” she said gushing at his son.

        “Yes he is,” Nick said.

        “My name is Emily, I love kids,” Emily said.

        “I’m Nick, this is my son, Jason,” Nick said.

        “I bet he keeps you and his mama on your toes,” Emily said. Nick looked at her.

        “Actually he just keeps me on my toes,” Nick said.

        “Oh, I’m sorry, you are raising him alone?” Emily said.

        “For now,” Nick said.

        “What happened,” Emily said.

        “My wife was in a car accident when she was seven months pregnant, she’s been in a coma since then, and the doctor performed a C-section to get the baby out when she was eight months, now the doc said she may never wake up,” Nick said.

        “I’m sorry,” Emily said.

        “I’m not giving up hope, I visit her every day with Jason, I love her more than anything in the world, her and Jason, I can’t be with anyone else, my wife is the only one for me, I can’t live without her,” Nick said.

        “She will wake up, I know it, she knows you are waiting for her with your son,” Emily said.

        “I better get him home, nice meeting you,” Nick said. He went to checkout.

        “Nick, wait,” Emily said coming up to him before he went out the door. She gave him a piece of paper.

        “Here’s my number if you ever want to talk,” Emily said.

        “Thanks,” Nick said. He put the groceries in the car and put the cart up and picked Jason up and put him in his car seat and went home. He carried Jason and the groceries in and put Jason down for a nap. He looked at the number on the piece of paper.

Two months later, Nick and Emily got together to talk and she helped him out with Jason and the guys met Emily. Leighanne noticed how Emily looked at Nick. The guys were at the studio, going over music.

        “So, Nick, we’ve noticed how close you and Emily have gotten,” AJ said.

        “We are just friends, nothing more, you guys know my heart belongs to Brizee,” Nick said.

        “We know that,” Howie said.

        “Leighanne said she’s noticed the way Emily looks at you when you aren’t looking,” Brian said.

        “What do you mean,” Nick said.

        “Nick, she’s got the hots for you, she wants you for herself, she is waiting for the right moment,” Brian said.

        “For what,” Nick said.

        “For you to give into temptation, to give up on your wife and be with her,” Howie said.

        “Guys, I can’t be with anyone else, I love Brizee, I have told her that, that Brizee is the only one for me,” Nick said.

        “Don’t say we didn’t warn you, Frack,” Brian said. He thought about what they said. He went home and he stopped at the hospital and saw Emily talking with Dr. Thomas and he hid around the corner and heard them talking.

        “Is the plan working, honey?” Dr. Thomas asked.

        “Mom, I don’t want to do it,” Emily said.

        “I am keeping his wife in a coma for you, Emily, so you can have him to yourself, tonight, it’s seduction time,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “Mom, it won’t work, his wife is everything to him, no matter what, she is the only one for him, he can’t give his heart to another, it will always belong to Brizee, let her come back to him, she is Jason’s mother and he and Nick need her, I am done with this plan,” Emily said.

        “Emily, you will do what I want you to do, or you will lose everything,” Dr. Thomas said.  Nick couldn’t believe it. Dr. Thomas was purposely keeping Brizee in a coma so her daughter can be with him. He went to Brian’s and told him everything he overheard.  Howie, AJ, and Kevin came over and Nick told them everything.  The guys came up with a plan. Nick went home and waited for Emily to come over. She walked in and saw him and he sat there looking at his hands. She sat down next to him.

        “Nick,” Emily said.

        “I have to face the fact that my wife is never coming back, maybe I should move on,” Nick said.

        “I wish there was something I could do,” Emily said.

        “Help me move on, Emily,” Nick said. She looked at him and sat there.

        “How?” Emily asked. He grabbed her head and pulled her to him and kissed her hard on the mouth.  She moved closer to him and he pulled her onto his lap and she straddled him and the kiss went deeper. She pulled back and looked at him.

        “Are you sure about this?” Emily asked. He took her hand and put it on his crotch.

        “Aren’t you,” Nick said softly as he stroked her cheek. She nodded and they removed each other’s clothes and she straddled him and moved and took him into her body. She moved against him as he held her hips. He thrusted up against her. He stopped her and held onto her and stood up and sank down on the floor and moved over her and went faster and harder. She came around him and he pulled out and got up and went into the bathroom and closed the door. She laid there wondering what happened. He came out ten minutes later with a towel around his waist and he grabbed his clothes and went into the bathroom and got dressed and came out. Brian, Howie, and AJ came in and saw her sitting up on the floor wrapped in a blanket.

        “What happened here,” Brian said.

        “We slept together,” Emily said.

        “Nick!” AJ said.

        “What about Brizee?” Howie said.

        “Oh god!” Nick said sitting down on the couch.

        “You just cheated on your wife, Nick, how could you!” Brian said.

        “What have I done!” Nick said crying. He knew it was part of the plan. He purposely pulled out before he could come to keep from getting her pregnant. He looked at the guys.

        “Nick,” Emily said. He looked at her and looked at the guys. She quickly got dressed and looked at the guys.

        “How do you like our plan, Emily,” Brian said.

        “What?” Emily said.

        “Our little plan, you get Nick to fuck you and then we show up, we know all about your little plan your mother cooked up for you,” Brian said.

        “Oh god,” Emily said.

        “Nick overheard you and your mother, who happens to be Brizee’s doctor, talking about your little plan for you to seduce Nick and have him for yourself while she keeps Brizee in a coma, you get your mom to let Brizee wake up or her career is over,” Brian said.

        “Let’s go,” Nick said. They all went to the hospital and went to Brizee’s room and saw Dr. Thomas injecting something into Brizee’s IV.

        “Mom,” Emily said. She saw them and froze.

        “Is that what you give my wife to keep her in a coma, Dr. Thomas,” Nick said.

        “Nick,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “They know everything, Mom, Nick overheard us talking and they came up with their own plan,” Emily said.

        “I led your daughter on and fucked her, but she won’t be getting pregnant by me, I made sure of that, you can kiss your career goodbye, move away from my wife now,” Nick said. Emily pulled her mother away from Brizee.

        “Mom, no more, let Brizee come back to her husband and son, they need her, he can’t be without her, I can’t be with him,” Emily said. Dr. Thomas looked at her daughter.

        “If you truly love Emily, you listen to her,” Brian said. Dr. Thomas hugged Emily.

        “I’m sorry for everything,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “How long before she’ll come out of the coma,” Nick said.

        “What I was giving her, lasts two days,” Dr. Thomas said.

        “Dr. Elizabeth Thomas, you are under arrest,” Officer Smith said coming in. They took her out of the room.

        “I’m sorry for everything, guys, I didn’t want to go along with the plan in the first place,” Emily said.

        “Nick told us that, if you can promise not to say anything to anyone about what happened, we can work something out,” Brian said.

        “I will do anything to make it all up to all of you,” Emily said. Howie stepped forward. Emily gazed at him.

        “How about us going out?” Howie asked.

        “That would be a big yes, I have always had a big crush on you, but my mom saw an opportunity for me to go after Nick, but I told her that I like you, but she didn’t listen,” Emily said.

        “So you can handle being with me instead,” Howie said.

        “Oh yeah, you can show me some of that Latin Love,” Emily said. Howie smiled and they left the room. Nick looked at Brian and AJ.

        “Things do work out the way they should, do you think Briz would forgive me?” Nick asked.

        “I’m sure she would, after you explain everything,” AJ said. Nick sat down and held Brizee’s hand.

        “Brian, can you and Leighanne keep Jas for me, I’m not leaving her,” Nick said.

        “We sure can,” Brian said.

Two days later, Nick sat there watching Brizee. He saw her stirring. He hit the button and Dr. Kelly came in and checked her. She looked at Nick.

        “She’s coming back to us,” Dr. Kelly said. Nick took Brizee’s hand in his as she opened her eyes and looked around and saw him sitting there.

        “Nicky,” Brizee said.

        “Hey honey, welcome back,” Nick said.

        “What happened?” Brizee asked.

        “You were in a car accident, Brizee, I’m Dr. Kelly,” Dr. Kelly said. Brizee looked down and saw her stomach.

        “The baby’s gone, isn’t it,” Brizee said.

        “No, honey, we have a son, they kept him alive and when you were 8 months, they performed a C-section to get him out, he’s a healthy baby boy, and he has your nose,” Nick said. He showed her pictures. She started crying.

        “Our son, how old is he,” Brizee said.

        “He’s five and a half months old,” Nick said.

        “Oh god,” Brizee said.

        “Honey, you should have woken up sooner, but the first doctor, Dr. Thomas, was keeping you in a coma for her own reasons,” Nick said. He looked at his hands.

        “Nick, what’s going on,” Brizee said. Nick told her everything that happened. Brizee couldn’t believe it.

        “I can’t believe this,” Brizee said.

        “I’m sorry, honey, it was part of the plan to bust her, and it worked, she’s dating Howie now, they are hot and heavy and they could get married in the future,” Nick said.

        “Are you sure she’s not using him to snag you,” Brizee said. Nick shook his head.

        “No, baby, it was always him she wanted, not me, she wanted him but her mom saw the opportunity of her snagging me, but she wasn’t going to get me because my heart belongs to you,” Nick said. She reached out for him. He went into her arms.

        “I forgive you, baby, you proved that you would do anything to get me to wake up,” Brizee said.

        “I love you, baby, only you, you and Jas are everything to me,” Nick said.

        “You named him Jason?” Brizee said.

        “Jason Robert Carter, you said you liked the name Jason,” Nick said. Brizee pulled him down and kissed him deeply. There was a knock at the door. It opened and Brian, Leighanne, Baylee, Howie, Emily, AJ, Ally, Kevin, and Kristin came in.

        “She’s awake!” Nick said smiling. They crowded around the bed. Brizee looked at Emily.

        “I’m Emily and I’m sure Nick told you everything, I’m sorry for what my mom did, I told her I was against it but she threatened to disown me and make me into nothing,” Emily said.

        “Everything worked out for the best, you are with Howie, whom I’ve heard you liked to begin with,” Brizee said.

        “I’m in love with him and now I can’t imagine being without him,” Emily said hugging Howie.

        “And the same goes for me,” Howie said.

        “So where is my son?” Brizee asked.

        “Right here,” Denise said coming in with Jason. Brizee saw her son and started to cry as Denise put Jason in her arms. Brizee looked at her son and smiled at him. Jason cooed and snuggled up to her.

        “I think he knows you are his mom,” Denise said.

Five years later, things were going great with everyone. Emily and Howie got married and had a little boy. They named him James. He was three years old.  Jason was five years old and he was his father’s son in every way, pulling pranks on people. Nick did have to punish him when one of the pranks went too far. Jason soon learned to behave better and gave up the pranks. He knew he didn’t want to get in trouble with his father again. Brizee and Nick had a baby girl who was two years old. They named her Hayley Jane. The guys had taken a long break from music to focus on their families. They decided to surprise the fans with their return. They went to Japan and put on a concert on TV but no one knew it was them until the music started. Brizee, Leighanne, Emily, and Ally were gathered at Brizee and Nick’s house. The kids were asleep upstairs. Kevin and Kristin came in and sat down.

        “Kev, I think everyone will miss you from the group,” Brizee said.

        “I know they will but I felt it was time for me to do other things,” Kevin said.

        “But he still will hang with you all, I know I will,” Kristin said. Brizee smiled.

        “You guys better hang around with us,” Brizee said.

        “Besides Mason would be upset if he didn’t get to play with Baylee and Jason, they are all best buds,” Kristin said.

        “Almost like brothers,” Brizee said.

        “They all are like their fathers,” Kristin said.

        “Yup, especially Jason, he went too far with the pranks that Nick had to punish him, he gave up the pranking to keep from getting in trouble with his dad,” Brizee said.

        “Shh, it’s starting,” Leighanne said. They watched the concert. Kevin was surprised with the new dance moves.  After it was over, Brizee turned off the TV.

        “Briz,” Leighanne said.

        “I miss him,” Brizee said.

        “I know you do, I miss Brian, too, we all got used to our guys being around that we have to adjust to them being gone,” Leighanne said.

        “You guys have been around longer than I have so you all know how to handle them being gone a lot but this is new for me,” Emily said.

        “Welcome to life as a Backstreet wife,” Ally said.

        “But it is all worth it, the homecomings are great, right?” Emily asked.

        “Oh yeah, the last tour, when Brian came home, let’s just say that we didn’t leave the bedroom for a week, that’s how Baylee came about,” Leighanne said.

        “That’s how Jason came to being,” Brizee said.

        “Mason,” Kristin said looking at Kevin.

        “Jack,” Ally said of her five year old son with AJ.

        “I can’t wait until he comes home, he said he wants more kids,” Emily said.

        “Howie did come from a big family, three sisters and a brother, I imagine he wants that too,” Ally said.

Two months later, the guys came home. Nick came in the door. Jason and Hayley ran to their father and hugged him. He held his kids close to him. He saw two bags by the door and looked at Brizee. She looked at him.

        “What’s those bags for,” Nick said.

        “They are ours, Daddy, we are going to spend a week at Grandpa Bob’s and Grandma Ginger’s,” Jason said.

        “But I just got home,” Nick said.

        “We know, Daddy, but Mommy wants to be alone with you and we want to see Grandpa Bob and Grandma Ginger and Uncle Kayden,” Jason said. Bob and Ginger came to the door and Nick hugged his kids and they left. Brizee locked up the house and looked at her husband.

        “Briz,” Nick said.

        “I know you are exhausted, I thought you would need the rest,” Brizee said pulling him up to the bedroom and closed the door and locked it and helped him strip down to his boxers.

        “What do you have planned,” Nick said.

        “Well, it involves not moving from this bedroom the whole week,” Brizee said. He pulled her close.   

        “That is a great plan,” Nick said nuzzling her neck.
