Nick sat there in the room where they were going to
have a interview. He had just been reunited with his wife, Brizee and their
newborn son, Nicky. There was some problems with the delivery and Brizee had to
stay behind in LA with the baby while Nick continued with the tour. They were
apart for a week and during that week, he drove Howie crazy by being there
every night on the bus. Howie wanted to be alone with his wife, Hayley, but Hayley
had promised Brizee that she would take care of Nick for her so she allowed
Nick to remain on their bus for the week which drove Howie crazy. After picking
up Brizee and Nicky, everything came to a boiling point where Howie accused
Nick of not being a good father. Brizee tried to calm Nick but he yelled at her
and she told him to find another place to sleep because she didn’t want him
with her. So here he was, alone and no way of talking to Brizee. Billy wouldn’t
let him near her and all calls to her room were cut off. He knew he made a
mistake of yelling at her but he couldn’t get to her to apologize. She wouldn’t
talk to him or see him. Kevin came in and saw him.
“Nicky,
you okay, man,” Kevin said. Nick shook his head and told his big brother what
was going on.
“Want me
to talk to her,” Kevin said.
“She
won’t talk to anyone, she won’t take anyone’s calls,” Nick said. He leaned
forward and held his head in his hands.
“I’m
not
a bad father, Kev, I haven’t been one long enough to be one and I know how to
handle kids since I helped take care of my siblings, I know what to do,” Nick
said. Kevin nodded.
“I know
that and so does Howie,” Kevin said.
“I should
have just stayed on my bus, everything is my fault,” Nick said.
“Nick,
you missed Briz and Nicky, Hayley’s her best friend and she and Howie promised
to keep you company and Hayley promised Brizee that she would take care of you
while Briz was gone, Howie just wanted to be alone with Hayley, and he couldn’t
with you there but it is partially his fault because if he wanted to be alone
with Hayley, he shouldn’t have offered to keep you company,” Kevin said.
“I don’t
know what to do, Kev,” Nick said.
“Just
give Briz time, and stay clear of Howie, and if you need anything, you have me,
Brian, and AJ,” Kevin said. Nick nodded. Howie walked in and saw them. Nick
didn’t look at him but Kevin glared at him. Brian and AJ came in and went to
Nick and sat next to him. Kevin filled them in quietly. Brian and AJ looked at
Howie and shook their heads.
“What!”
Howie said.
“Just do
the interview and go back to your wife, Howie, leave Nick alone, no more
yelling at him,” Kevin said. AJ stood beside Kevin.
“Just so
you know, Nick hasn’t been a father long enough to be a bad father and you know
as well as all of us that he helped with his siblings,” AJ said.
“Guys,
let’s just get the interview over and done with so I can get out of here and
away from him,” Nick said.
After the interview, Nick went out to his bus and got on and locked it and went
to the back and laid on the bed and stared at the ceiling. His heart ached that
he couldn’t be with his wife and son. But he knew he had to give her time and
knew he couldn’t get past Billy. He didn’t know what he was going to do to get
back with his family. He fell into a restless sleep. The next morning, he woke
up and saw he was on the bus and he got up and stretched and changed and combed
his hair and went into the hotel to find some breakfast. He walked into the
restaurant and saw the guys and the crew sitting around. He saw Howie and Hayley
talking with AJ. Kevin saw him and waved
him over. Brian was sitting with him. He waved and got a plate of food and came
over and sat down.
“How did
you sleep?” Brian asked.
“Okay, I
slept, would have slept better next to my wife, but I screwed that up,” Nick
said. He slowly ate his food as he stared at the table.
Hayley watched Nick sitting with Kevin and Brian and
she looked at her husband.
“Why did
you have to say Nick was a bad father, why did you have to fight with him, D,
look at him, it’s last week all over again, Briz wants nothing to do with him,
it’s our fault, D,” Hayley said.
“I know
but he won’t talk to me,” Howie said. Hayley got up and went over to Nick and
hugged him.
“Want me
to talk to Briz,” Hayley said.
“Thanks, Hayley,
but I’m giving her the time she needs, Brian and Kev already offered but I
don’t think anyone can get near her, Billy won’t let anyone talk to her,
especially me,” Nick said.
“He’ll
let me,” Hayley said.
“Not even
you, we tried last night, Hayley, Billy said she doesn’t want to talk to
anyone, even you,” Brian said.
“I think
she is mad at me because I’ve been hanging with Lisa a lot,” Hayley said.
“I’m
just
giving her time,” Nick said.
“Where
did you sleep?” Hayley said.
“My bus,”
Nick said.
“How did
you sleep,” Hayley said.
“Not as
well as I do with Briz,” Nick said.
“Maybe
she’ll come around,” Hayley said.
“I shouldn’t
have yelled at her, sis, I was so stupid to yell at her,” Nick said.
“It
wasn’t your fault, Nick, everything just came to a boiling point, you didn’t
mean to yell, and for the record, you aren’t a bad father, I heard stories of
how you helped with your siblings and I know you know how to handle babies,” Hayley
said.
“He’s
your husband, Hayley, you are suppose to be taking his side,” Nick said.
“But you
are my little bro, I can take your side as well, I told Howie that he went over
the line, he wants to apologize,” Hayley said.
“I can’t
talk to him right now, what he said really hurt,” Nick said.
“I know,
and he knows you will come to him when you are ready to talk,” Hayley said.
Nick nodded. Hayley hugged and kissed his cheek and went back to her husband
and AJ. That night at the show, something went wrong. Hayley was watching the
show when it happened. She watched in horror as Nick tripped and fell off the
stage. She ran down the front of the stage and ran to him. She saw blood.
Kevin, Brian, AJ, and Howie jumped off the stage and ran to their little
brother. Carlos called for paramedics as the venue security started clearing
the fans out. Hayley felt for a pulse.
“He’s
still with us, hang in there, Nicky, help is on its way,” Hayley said. The guys
gathered around their little brother. Howie took Nick’s hand.
“Nicky,
stay with us, I promise never to fight with you again, I was wrong about what I
said, you are a great father, you need to hang in there, for your son, for
Briz,” Howie said. Hayley called Brizee and got no answer. She called Billy.
“Hayley,”
Billy said.
“Billy,
you need to get Brizee to the hospital now!” Hayley said as the paramedics
arrived and got Nick ready to go to the hospital.
“What’s
going on,” Billy said.
“Nick
tripped and fell off the stage, Brizee needs to get to the hospital now, we are
on our way there now,” Hayley said as they rushed Nick out of the venue.
“I’ll
get
her and be on our way,” Billy said. He hung up and unlocked the door and went
in and saw Brizee come out of the bedroom.
“Billy,”
Brizee said.
“We need
to go,” Billy said.
“Where?”
Brizee asked.
“The
hospital,” Billy said.
“What
happened,” Brizee said.
“It’s
Nick, he tripped and fell off the stage, they are on the way to the hospital
right now,” Billy said. Brizee got Nicky in his seat and they went to the
hospital. They found everyone waiting in the VIP waiting room. Hayley got up
and went to her and hugged her.
“How is
he,” Brizee said as Brian and AJ took Nicky for her.
“It’s
not
good, Briz, there was blood everywhere, he’s hanging in there, don’t know his
condition, I think they are waiting for you, you are his wife, they won’t tell
us without talking to you first,” Hayley said. She went to the desk. The nurse
looked up at her.
“Yes,”
she said.
“I’m
Brizee
Carter, I’m Nick Carter’s wife, I need to talk to someone about his condition,”
Brizee said.
“The
doctor will be out shortly, they are still working on him and figuring out his
injuries before coming out,” the nurse said.
“Thanks,”
Brizee said. She sat down. Kevin sat beside her. She looked at him.
“Why did
I throw him out, Kev, I should have let him into the room,” Brizee said.
“He told
me what happened,” Kevin said.
“Where
did he sleep last night?” Brizee asked.
“His
bus,” Kevin said.
“I should
have let him in, he must of not got a good night’s sleep,” Brizee said.
“He said
it was restless,” Kevin said.
“This is
my fault,” Brizee said.
“No one
knew this would happen, Nick is a little clumsy at times, but this was an
accident, it is no one’s fault, not even his,” Kevin said.
“Mrs.
Carter?” someone said. She looked up and saw the doctor.
“Yes,”
Brizee said getting up. Everyone gathered behind her.
“Maybe we
should talk alone,” the doctor said.
“They are
family, how is my husband,” Brizee said.
“I’m
Dr.
Harris, your husband suffered serious injuries from his fall, he has a broken
arm, a broken leg, a bruised back, and a concussion, he’s in a coma, it’s too
soon to know when he’ll come out of it,” the doctor said.
“But
he’ll live?” Brizee asked.
“As far
as we can tell, yes,” Dr. Harris said.
“Can I
see him, please,” Brizee said.
“Right
this way,” Dr. Harris said. She looked the gang.
“We will
watch Nicky, go to Nick,” Hayley said. She went to the room where Nick was and
she walked in and saw him and went to his side. She took his hand in his.
“Nick,
honey, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere,” Brizee said kissing his hand.
Days went by and Nick’s condition remained the same.
Howie and Hayley were taking care of Nicky while Brizee stayed at the hospital
with Nick. Billy stayed with her as did Eddie. Brizee took his hand in hers.
She felt his hand squeeze hers. She pressed the call button. Dr. Harris came in
and she looked at him.
“I felt
him squeeze my hand,” Brizee said. Dr. Harris examined Nick.
“He’s
coming back to us,” Dr. Harris said.
“Nick,
baby, it’s me, I’m here, come back to me,” Brizee said. His eyes fluttered and
opened and he blinked and looked at her.
“Briz,”
Nick said.
“I’m
here, baby, I’m not going anywhere,” Brizee said. Nick kept ahold of her hand
and smiled.
“I’m
sorry for yelling at you,” Nick said.
“It’s
okay, Nick, you were in an argument with Howie, I should have stayed out of it,
I love you,” Brizee said kissing his hand.
“I love
you, too,” Nick said.
“Nick,
I’m Dr. Harris, how are you feeling,” Dr. Harris said.
“Like a
truck ran over me,” Nick said softly.
“Billy,
call the guys,” Brizee said. Billy went to make the call. Brizee sat on the bed
beside him.
“How long
have you been here,” Nick said.
“Hayley
called Billy while they were loading you up at the venue, he got me and Nicky
and brought us here and I haven’t left your side since,” Brizee said.
“Where’s
Nicky?” Nick asked.
“With
Howie and Hayley, they’ve been watching him while I was here with you, I wasn’t
going to leave you for anything,” Brizee said.
“How long
have I been here,” Nick said.
“Four
days,” Brizee said.
“And
you’ve been away from Nicky that long,” Nick said. Brizee looked at him.
“He’s
fine, they brought him here every day so I can feed him, besides, you are his
father and he needs you, and I need you, I didn’t want to leave you, I wanted
to be here when you woke up,” Brizee said. Nick reached up and stroked her
cheek.
“I love
you, so much,” Nick said.
“I love
you, too, no more sleeping on the bus,” Brizee said. Nick smiled.
“Well, I
can’t go on with the tour like this, a broken arm and leg, bruised back, I have
to take it easy for awhile,” Nick said.
“Two
months tops,” Dr. Harris said.
“There is
no way to postpone the tour that long, doc,” Nick said.
“Well,
you can’t dance with a hurt back and a broken arm and leg,” Dr. Harris said.
