Amy Matthews sat at the kitchen table with her youngest son, Josh, and her daughter, Morgan when the phone rang. She got up and answered it.

        “Hello,” Amy said.

        “Hey, it’s Shawn, you guys should get up to New York as soon as possible,” Shawn said. Alan came in and saw her on the phone.

        “Shawn, what is it,” Amy said.

        “It’s Cory, he got hit by a car, he’s in the hospital on life support, they aren’t sure he’ll make it,” Shawn said.

        “We’re on our way,” Amy said. She hung up.

        “Amy,” Alan said.

        “Cory’s in the hospital, on life support, he was hit by a car,” Amy said. They got their things and the kids and told Mr. Feeny who went with them and headed to New York and found the hospital and saw Eric and Shawn in the waiting room.

        “Where’s Topanga?” Amy asked.

        “Not here,” Shawn said.

        “What is going on, Shawn,” Amy said.

        “He wanted to surprise her, but he got surprised,” Eric said.

        “What,” Alan said.

        “He walked in and saw another guy kiss her, she didn’t pull away right away, by the time she did, Cory took off and she saw me and I shook my head and told her she just destroyed Cory,” Shawn said.

        “Oh god,” Amy said.

        “He was in a hurry and wasn’t looking where he was going and got hit,” Shawn said.

        “So she doesn’t know,” Alan said.

        “We didn’t bother telling her and didn’t tell anyone here that he was married,” Shawn said.

        “Yeah, as far as they are concerned, me and Shawn are the only family here for him,” Eric said.

        “I’ll be back, keep me informed,” Alan said. He went to Cory’s apartment and walked in and saw Topanga looking at a picture of her and Cory. She looked up and saw him.

        “Why did you do it, Topanga,” Alan said.

        “I didn’t do anything, he kissed me, I was too shocked to pull away right away, I would never intentionally hurt Cory, I could never do that,” Topanga said.

        “But it did, Topanga, he’s in the hospital on life support because he wasn’t watching where he was going and got hit by a car, you destroyed him!” Alan said.

        “Oh god,” Topanga said covering her face.

        “Don’t bother coming to the hospital, you aren’t welcomed and you will no longer be a part of the family,” Alan said.

        “Cory should be the one to make that choice, he can’t now but if he could, it should be his decision, not yours, he is an adult now, no longer under your roof, he and I are married, you can’t keep me from him, since I’m his wife, I’m the next of kin, you can’t stop me from being with him,” Topanga said. She went out the door and went to the hospital and saw everyone in the waiting room. She went to Cory’s room. A nurse stopped her before she opened the door.

        “Ma’am, family only,” she said.

        “I’m his wife, nurse, Topanga Matthews,” Topanga said showing her id and marriage license. The nurse nodded and stepped aside and Topanga went in.

Alan came into the waiting room. Amy stood up.

        “I couldn’t stop her,” Alan said.

        “Alan,” Amy said.

        “I told her she wasn’t welcomed, she said I couldn’t keep her from him, that she’s his next of kin,” Alan said.

        “She is right, Alan, we can’t keep his wife from him,” Amy said. Alan sat down.

        “I told her she was no longer a member of the family, she said it’s Cory’s decision,” Alan said.

        “Alan, she’s his wife, they are married, they have to work this out, we can’t do anything but be supportive,” Amy said. Alan nodded.

Topanga sat at Cory’s bedside and took his hand. She felt tears come down her cheeks.

        “Oh Cory, why did this happen, why couldn’t you pay attention, I didn’t kiss him back, I couldn’t do that to you, you are my heart and soul and no one is more important to me than you, I was not expecting him to kiss me, why didn’t you stick around and talk to me, I was too shocked by the kiss to pull away right away but I didn’t not kiss him back, after Shawn left, I told him off and slapped him, he won’t come near me again and after talking to the boss, he was transferred somewhere far away from New York, Cory, you know me as well as I know myself, you know I would never intentionally hurt you, I love you more than anything in the world and you know I would give up the job if you wanted me to, I would do anything to make you happy,” Topanga said. She kept ahold of his hand. She heard him moan and pressed the nurses button. The nurse came in and looked at her.

        “He moaned,” Topanga said. She paged the doctor and he came in and checked Cory.

        “He’s coming back to us, ma’am, who are you,” the doctor said looking at Topanga.

        “I’m Topanga, his wife,” Topanga said.

        “You just saved your husband, you brought him back,” the doctor said. He removed the life support and Cory opened his eyes and looked around. He saw Topanga.

        “Topanga,” Cory said.

        “Hey, welcome back,” Topanga said.

        “Where am I,” Cory said.

        “Hospital in New York, you were hit by a car,” Topanga said. He groaned.

        “I wasn’t watching where I was going,” Cory said.

        “You should have been, Cory, you are in New York, cars don’t stop for anyone,” Topanga said.

        “I know, but I just had my heart ripped out,” Cory said.

        “No, you didn’t, Cory, that kiss meant nothing because I didn’t kiss back,” Topanga said.

        “You didn’t pull away,” Cory said.

        “Because I was in shock, I wasn’t expecting it, I was in disbelief that some guy who knows I’m married would kiss me, you know me, Cory, I wouldn’t do anything to hurt you intentionally, you mean everything to me and if you wanted me to leave the job, I would,” Topanga said.

        “You would give it up for me,” Cory said.

        “Yes, I would, I don’t want to lose you, Cory, I would do anything for you, you mean more to me than a job, we can go back to Philadelphia to be close to your family, go back to Pennbrook and our apartment,” Topanga said.

        “It’s still open?” Cory asked.

        “Of course, I asked the landlord to hold it for us, your mom and Morgan go clean it every week, and Dean Bolander-Feeny said we are welcomed back to the university any time,” Topanga said. Cory looked at her.

        “The kiss meant nothing,” Cory said.

        “Not a thing, if I ever see him again, I will slug him,” Topanga said.

        “I don’t want you giving anything else up for me, you gave up Yale for me, we are staying and I forgive you,” Cory said.

        “You might talk to your dad, he told me I was no longer welcomed in the family,” Topanga said.

        “Get him in here,” Cory said. She went out and looked at everyone.

        “Alan, Amy, come on in,” Topanga said. They came in and saw Cory awake.

        “Oh honey,” Amy said hugging him.

        “Hey Mom,” Cory said.

        “No matter how upset or mad you are, pay attention where you are going,” Amy said.

        “I had no reason to be upset, she explained what happened and I forgave her,” Cory said.

        “Cory,” Alan said. 

        “The kiss meant nothing, Alan, I didn’t kiss back, I was in disbelief and shock that a guy who knew I’m happily married would kiss me, if I ever see him again, I will slug him,” Topanga said. Cory took her hand.

        “She loves me and only me and wouldn’t intentionally hurt me, I’m her heart and soul and she’s mine,” Cory said.

        “I told him I would give up everything and we would go back home to Philadelphia,” Topanga said.

        “And I told her I don’t want her giving anything else up for me,” Cory said. Topanga’s cell phone rang. She looked at it.

        “It’s Angela,” Topanga said. She went to answer it.

        “Cory,” Alan said.

        “Dad, this is my choice, my decision, she and I talked it out and I made the choice, it’s my life, you can’t tell me what to do anymore,” Cory said. Amy looked at Topanga who was hanging up her phone.

        “Topanga,” Amy said.

        “Angela’s father was killed in action, she’s coming back and wants Shawn, I told her where we were,” Topanga said. She went out and looked at Shawn. He came over to her.

        “Cory?” Shawn said.

        “He’s fine, Shawn, I just got a call from Angela, she’s coming to New York, her father was killed in action, she wants you back, Shawn, we are all she has left,” Topanga said.

        “When is she coming in,” Shawn said.

        “She’ll be landing at Newark Airport in a couple hours,” Topanga said.

        “I’m going to wait for her, I want her back, too, she’s the only one for me,” Shawn said.

        “Tell her I’ll talk to her soon,” Topanga said.

        “I’ll bring her here when she comes in,” Shawn said.

        “Okay, I’m not leaving his side,” Topanga said.

        “You guys okay?” Shawn asked.

        “We are more than okay, we are perfect, he forgave me,” Topanga said.

        “So the kiss meant nothing,” Shawn said.

        “Shawn, you know me as well as Cory does,” Topanga said. Shawn hugged her.

        “I know, you wouldn’t do anything to hurt him,” Shawn said. Topanga nodded and Shawn left. He went to the airport and saw the flight times and went to the gate to wait for her.  He sat there until it was time for the plane to land. He watched it taxi in and the doors opened and the passengers began coming through the gate. He saw Angela come through the gate and she saw him and she ran to him and they hugged.

        “I’m so sorry about your dad, he was a great man,” Shawn said. She cried and held onto him.

        “Yes, he was, and so are you, you’ve waited for me,” Angela said.

        “Of course I did, you are the only one for me, I couldn’t love anyone else or even think of going out with anyone else without thinking of you, I missed you so much that I keep seeing you everywhere in the city,” Shawn said.

        “I kept seeing you, too, we really do belong together,” Angela said.

        “Let’s get out of here,” Shawn said.

        “How’s Cory,” Angela said.

        “He’s going to be fine,” Shawn said. They went to the hospital and went to Cory’s room and saw Amy, Alan, Eric, Morgan, Josh, Mr. Feeny, and Topanga in there.

        “Look who’s here,” Shawn said. They saw Angela and Topanga hugged her. Amy came over to her and hugged her.

        “I’m so sorry about your father, sweetheart,” Amy said.      “Thank you,” Angela said.

        “Since Shawn is a member of our family, so are you, you are not alone anymore, you have all of us here for you,” Amy said. Angela smiled and hugged her.

        “Thank you,” Angela said.

        “Hey Angela,” Cory said. She went and hugged him.

        “You need to watch where you are going,” Angela said.

        “I know,” Cory said.

        “Well, I’m sure Angela is tired from the flight, so we will be at the penthouse,” Shawn said.

        “I’m staying with Cory until he leaves,” Topanga said.

        “We’ll be there in a while,” Amy said. Shawn and Angela went back to the penthouse. She looked around.

        “You live with Cory and Topanga,” Angela said.

        “Well, it’s a huge place, four bedrooms, two baths, big living room, dining room, kitchen, we have a pool table,” Shawn said. Angela looked around.

        “It’s nice,” Angela said.

        “Eric lives here, too,” Shawn said.

        “So where can I sleep?” Angela asked.

        “Extra bedroom, next to mine,” Shawn said. They went up the stairs and walked into the bedroom.

        “Wow,” Angela said.

        “Topanga wanted it to be decorated for the family, when they would come visit, her mom was here last week and her dad the week before, we made sure they didn’t see each other, the sheets are clean,” Shawn said.

        “Well, is it okay if I take a nap, sleep off the jetlag,” Angela said.       

        “Sure, I’ll be downstairs, yell if you need anything,” Shawn said. Angela hugged him and he let her sleep and he went downstairs and sat down and read a magazine. He heard the door open and Amy, Alan, Mr. Feeny, Morgan, Josh, and Eric came in. They saw him.

        “Angela asleep?” Amy asked.

        “Yeah, in the spare bedroom, you guys have have Cory and Topanga’s room, the sheets are clean,  Mr. Feeny, this couch folds out into a bed,” Shawn said.

        “We have a sleeping bag, Morgan, you can sleep in my bed and I’ll sleep in the sleeping bag on the floor,” Eric said.

        “Thanks, Josh can be with you,” Morgan said.

        “Sure, right little bro,” Eric said.

        “He can have my bed,” Shawn said.

        “Where will you sleep,” Amy said.

        “That other couch folds out, I’ll sleep on it,” Shawn said.

        “Well, let’s get some sleep,” Alan said. They all went to their rooms to sleep. Shawn unfolded the couches.

        “They are clean sheets, Mr. Feeny, don’t worry,” Shawn said.

        “Thank you, Shawn,” Mr. Feeny said.

        “It’s good you came, Mr. Feeny, it meant a lot to Cory, I wish Mrs. Feeny could have came too,” Shawn said.

        “Yes, but she had to be at the university, they have a sub for me, but can’t have one for the dean,” Mr. Feeny said.

        “And you are okay with her being your boss,” Shawn said.

        “She may be the boss at the university but at home, we are equals,” Mr. Feeny said.

        “Goodnight, Mr. Feeny,” Shawn said. They went to sleep. The next morning, they all got up and got breakfast and went to the hospital with a change of clothes for Topanga and breakfast for her and Cory. They went to the room and saw Topanga and Cory talking.

        “Good morning, you two, we brought breakfast and a change of clothes for you, Topanga,” Amy said handing her the bag. Topanga smiled.

        “Thanks, I’m going to shower and get to work,” Topanga said. She went into the bathroom. Amy looked at Cory.

        “I thought she wasn’t leaving your side,” Amy said.

        “We talked, she shouldn’t miss work, she’ll be back later,” Cory said.

        “Well, we are going to stay with you, then,” Amy said.

Twenty minutes later, Topanga came out dressed and ready for work. She kissed Cory and said bye and left and went to work. She sat down at her desk. Greg came to her desk.

        “Topanga,” Greg said.

        “I suggest you get away and stay away before I slug you,” Topanga said.

        “I’m sorry about yesterday,” Greg said.

        “You should be, my husband saw the kiss and was so upset that he didn’t pay attention to where he was walking and got hit by a car, they thought he wasn’t going to make it, he’s going to be okay, thanks to me, I talked to him and brought him back, you almost destroyed my marriage, to make things clear, I love my husband with everything in me and nothing anyone does will change that, I’m not available and never will be, I will be with my husband until the day I die,” Topanga said.

        “I’m sorry, I heard you, I just wanted to tell you that I will respect your marriage and I want us to be friends, turns out my ex-girlfriend wants me back and I still love her,” Greg said.

        “Good for you, we’ll see about the friends part later,” Topanga said. He nodded and went back to work. She did her work and she left and went back to the hospital and walked into Cory’s room and saw Amy sitting with him. Cory saw her and smiled.

        “Hey honey,” Cory said. She kissed him.

        “Let me change and I’m all yours,” Topanga said. She went into the bathroom and changed and came out.

        “So where is everyone,” Topanga said sitting down.

        “Well, Alan took Morgan and Josh shopping at the toy stores, Eric, Shawn, and Mr. Feeny are showing Angela the city,” Amy said.

        “You won’t believe what happened today, that guy came up to me at work, and he apologized and wanted to be friends, he even said his ex wants him back and he still loves her, so everything worked out for the best, but I made it clear to him that I love my husband and will be with him forever and nothing will change that,” Topanga said. Cory smiled and held her hand.
