Hayley walked up the steps to the front door of the house where Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys lived. She wondered
what outcome her visit would make. She looked down at the bundle in her arms. She was best friends with Gretchen Wilder who
had a one night stand with Nick. Gretchen died after giving birth to the baby and asked Hayley before she died to give the
baby to Nick since the baby was his. She went and had a blood test taken and the baby was indeed Nick’s child. She had
used a piece of hair that Gretchen had kept from when she was with Nick. She got the papers and put them in her hands and
rang the doorbell. The door opened and Nick stood there.
“Can I help you?” Nick
asked.
“Yes, you are Nick right,”
Hayley said.
“Yes,” Nick said.
“Then I’m at the right
place, here you go,” Hayley said handing him the baby.
“Wait a minute here,”
Nick said.
“Here are the baby’s things,
bottles, diapers, pacifiers, everything you need,” Hayley said.
“Hey, what is the deal here,”
Nick said.
“I’m only doing what I
was told to do by the baby’s mother, bye,” Hayley said. Nick grabbed her hand and pulled her inside and closed
the door and stood in front of it with the baby in his arms.
“I want to know what is going
on,” Nick said. Brian, Howie, and AJ came in from the living room.
“Nick,” Brian said.
“I was told by the baby’s
mother to give this child to you and I did just that,” Hayley said.
“I get that part, but why me?”
Nick said.
“It’s your baby,”
Hayley said.
“That’s impossible,”
Nick said. Hayley gave him the papers and he looked at them.
“Gretchen Wilder is the mother,
I was only with her one night,” Nick said.
“This is the result of that
one night, this is your child, Nick, Gretchen died shortly after giving birth to the baby, I was her best friend and she asked
me before she died to give the baby to you since you are the father, she wouldn’t want her baby in foster care,”
Hayley said.
“You couldn’t take care
of her,” Nick said.
“I’m barely getting by
on my own and I can’t add a baby to that, I don’t have the money or time to take care of the child who isn’t
my own,” Hayley said.
“This is some kind of joke right,
just a ploy to get money out of me,” Nick said.
“Nick, this baby is yours, two
paternity tests confirmed it, Gretchen had two strands of your hair and they were used in the test to match you to the baby,
congratulations, Nick, meet your daughter, Isabella,” Hayley said. Nick looked at the baby.
“I’m a dad,” Nick
said.
“How do we know for sure the
tests are right,” Brian said as Nick handed him the baby.
“Look, you can go for another
test if that makes you feel better but I’m only doing what I was told, Gretchen did not want her baby with her parents,
she wanted the baby with the baby’s father, you, Nick,” Hayley said.
“Can you stay and help me with
her?” Nick asked.
“I am sorry but I have to go
to work,” Hayley said going out the door. Nick came after her.
“I’ll pay you twice of
what you are making now at your job,” Nick said.
“Why, you should know how to
take care of kids, being the oldest of five kids should give you the ability to take care of a child,” Hayley said.
“I know I can take care of her,
but she needs a mother like figure in her life, and you being her mother’s best friend, you can be that person,”
Nick said. Hayley sighed.
“I’ll think about it,
I work at the mall in Sports Authority, I got to go,” Hayley said. She got into her car and took off.
Chapter 2
Hayley sat behind the counter at the shop, reading a magazine. Her boss, Matt, was going over some books.
“So, you okay,” Matt said.
“I feel this void in my life,”
Hayley said.
“You miss the baby, don’t
you,” Matt said.
“More than you know, I only
had her for three days and it felt like forever,” Hayley said. Matt looked up and smiled and looked at her.
“Here we go,” Matt said.
Hayley looked up and saw Nick come in with the baby in the infant carrier. He walked up to the counter and smiled at her.
“Hi,” Hayley said.
“Hi,” Nick said.
“I haven’t had enough
time,” Hayley said.
“Time for what,” Matt
said.
“Nick wants me to come work
for him as a nanny, he wants me to be a mother figure to the baby,” Hayley said.
“I offered her more than what
she is making here, which I don’t know but I will,” Nick said.
“Hayley, this might be good
for you,” Matt said.
“Matt, watch the baby, I want
to talk to Nick alone,” Hayley said. Nick sat the carrier on the counter and Hayley pulled him to the backroom and closed
the door and looked at him.
“If you are here to get me fired
from this job to come work for you, you are wasting your time,” Hayley said.
“Hayley, I am offering a lot
here, flexible hours, free room and board, two days off, seven hundred a week,” Nick said. Hayley’s eyes widened.
“That is twice more than what
I make here in one paycheck for two weeks,” Hayley said.
“That is what I am offering,”
Nick said.
“Fine, one day off a week is
all I want besides what you said,” Hayley said.
“Done,” Nick said holding
out his hand. She shook his hand and they went out and Matt looked at them.
“Well?” Matt said.
“I’m going to work for
him, I’m leaving,” Hayley said. Matt smiled.
“The door is open for you to
come back whenever you want,” Matt said.
“Thanks,” Hayley said
getting her purse and stuff and went out the door with Nick behind her.
“I’ll get my stuff from
my apartment and meet you at the house,” Hayley said.
“Do you need any help?”
Nick asked.
“Yes,” Hayley said. Nick
nodded and called the guys and told them to meet them at Hayley’s apartment and gave them the address after asking her
for it and they headed to the apartment complex where she lived. They walked in and looked around.
“You lived here by yourself?”
Nick asked.
“Well, actually with Gretchen
until she died,” Hayley said. Nick nodded and looked around. The guys arrived and got her packed up and moved into Nick’s
house within three hours. They put her stuff in the bedroom next to Nick’s and she began to unpack and get settled in.
Epilogue
Three months went by. Hayley and Nick have grown closer and decided to get married to be a real family with Isabella.
They were married in a small ceremony with only Brian, Leighanne, Baylee, Howie, Leigh, AJ, Kevin, and Kristin present as
witnesses. They went on a honeymoon and came back a week later and settled into family life with Isabella. Nick was out back
on his cell phone with Brian. Hayley was upstairs with Isabella.
“Yeah, Brian, I know I should,
everything is amazing,” Nick said.
“Nick, you go do what you’ve
got to do, I’ll talk to ya later,” Brian said. Nick said bye and hung up and sat there. Hayley came out where
he was and sat down on the lounge chair beside him.
“You okay?” Hayley asked.
“I’m fine, been thinking
about stuff,” Nick said.
“What stuff,” Hayley said.
Nick turned and faced her.
“Lately I’ve been feeling
different, about you, I know we married for Isabella, but the more time I spend with you, I am beginning to feel different,”
Nick said.
“Different?” Hayley said.
“I’ve fallen for you,
Hayley, everything I feel is because of you, the way you are, you are an amazing, beautiful, caring woman, that I’m
proud to call my wife and mother of my child,” Nick said. Hayley looked at him and smiled and took his hands.
“I’ve fallen for you,
too,” Hayley said. Nick cupped her face in his hands and kissed her deeply. Nick rested his forehead against hers. They
knew they would never be apart.
The End!
