Hayley walked into the house on the ranch her parents owned. She took over running the ranch when her folks retired to Arizona. The ranch was located in California. Her older brother, Jeff, was sheriff and his duties didn’t allow him much time to run the ranch and Hayley needed a fresh start after leaving Florida and her husband. She was married to Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys. She left him after finding him in bed with another woman. She grabbed most of her stuff while he was gone and left for California and came home to find her parents getting ready to leave and the ranch was hers to start over. Helen, the housekeeper, who Hayley has known since she was a baby, came into the front room and saw her and hugged her.

“Oh honey, everything is going to be okay, he won’t hurt you again,” Helen said.

“And he won’t know that he’s going to be a father,” Hayley said.

“How far along,” Helen said.

“Three months, he doesn’t know, I had gone to the doctor and came home to find him in bed with someone else, he didn’t know I saw him and acted like normal and waited until he left and packed up my stuff and came out here,” Hayley said.

“You didn’t talk to him about it,” Helen said.

“Helen,” Hayley said.

“Hayley, you just up and left, you didn’t confront him, maybe it wasn’t him, you said he and the guys were working on a new album and they were writing songs,” Helen said. Hayley sat down.

“Call him out here,” Hayley said. Helen made the call.

She hung up and looked at Hayley.

“What did he say,” Hayley said.

“He’s coming, he sounded relieved,” Helen said.

“Did he ask why I left,” Hayley said.

“Yeah, I told him to just come out here and find out,” Helen said.

The next day, Hayley sat in the living room when the doorbell rang. Helen opened the door and saw Nick with Brian and Leighanne.

“Come in,” Helen said. They came in and Nick saw Hayley and went to her.

“Hayley,” Nick said hugging her.

“Hi,” Hayley said.

“I came home and you were gone, I was so worried, there was no note, I thought something bad happened to you, I thought you were in a wreck and couldn’t call,” Nick said. Hayley looked at him.

“You mean you don’t know, or think I don’t know,” Hayley said.

“What,” Nick said.

“I saw you, Nick, in our bed with another woman,” Hayley said.

“What, I didn’t anything like that, I couldn’t do anything like that to you,” Nick said.

“Nick, I know what I saw,” Hayley said.

“Hayley, he was at my house all day with me, Howie, and AJ, we were writing songs for the new album, he didn’t leave the house until nine last night,” Brian said.

“It’s true, Hayley, you know we wouldn’t lie to you about that,” Leighanne said. Hayley looked at Nick and hugged him.

“I’m sorry,” Hayley said.

“I love you, Hayley, you know that,” Nick said.

“I know, I thought it was you and I thought my life was over,” Hayley said.

“It isn’t, you have me forever, nothing will change that, you have my heart forever and always,” Nick said.

“And something else, I’m pregnant,” Hayley said. Nick’s face lit up and he kissed her softly and hugged her. He cupped her face with his hands.

“We’re having a baby!” Nick said grinning.

“Yes, we are,” Hayley said.

“I love you so much!” Nick said hugging her.

“I love you, too,” Hayley said.

“Let’s go home,” Nick said.

“I can’t, I promised my parents I would run the ranch since they retired to Arizona,” Hayley said.

“Then we will live here and raise our baby and many more, I will be wherever you are,” Nick said. She smiled and hugged him. Brian, Leighanne, and Helen smiled as they watched them together.

That night, Hayley and Nick stood out on the front porch and watched the sunset. He rested his hands on her stomach and rested his chin on her shoulder as they watched the sky. They knew they would never be apart again and that the ranch was now home sweet home to them.

THE END!
